About Me


Born on 18 April 1993, Louzanne Coetzee is a South African para-athlete competing in the T11 disability class due to Leber congenital amaurosis. She made headlines in 2017 by breaking the 5000 m world record in her class. Coetzee became the first visually impaired athlete to compete at the World University Cross Country Championships in 2018. At the 2016 Summer Paralympics, she represented South Africa in the Women's 1500 metres but was disqualified. At the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, she won a silver medal in the 1500 m final (Africa record of 4:40.96) and a bronze medal in the T12 women's marathon (T11 world record of 3:11:13)
